Looking to get rid of the 2011 GTI, unfortunately, as it’s just getting too damn expensive to run. Yeah, I know, it’s a VW. But I never get out to autocross anymore now that I have two kids, so looking at just a commuter. So, new civic with 6MT. Any experience with these anyone?

Yeah, VW isn’t the greatest. Honda makes much better cars.
If you could’ve only waited a few months more, you could’ve gotten a 2017 turbo 6-speed

This is a video from Hondata with an EX 1.5L turbo vs. a 9th gen Si. They seem to like the 10th gens. Their opinion could be biased, they can sell way more tunes for turbo cars. Wait on the manual.

Get a Mazda 3 hatch

Get the EX which is already available with the turbo, (but wait a year for the manual.) Not enough headroom even in the 4dr. Exterior styling is polarizing - looks a little “wide/porky” to me currently...

The infotainment system sucks. Especially with the bass-ackwards buttons for volume control.
It looks like a shrunken crosstour that was crumpled up, then uncoupled, then had the 2nd-generation Fusion front end grafted on.
Other than that, it’s.... okay.
I’d rather get a Mazda3 hatch, Forte5, or Focus hatch- even though it’s dated - but Hondas have never revved my engine.

I hate the front; its not going to age well. Also Honda’s infotainment system sucks.

I’ve heard pretty much nothing but good things about the new Civic. Styling is pretty love or hate (personally love it) but the chassis is solid and it drives well. The turbo is getting paired to the 6-speed in 2017, so if you can hold out with the VW for a little longer you can get that. The N/A 2.0L is apparently pretty good though.

It was on my wife’s list and seemed fine. Didn’t make the final cut though (ended up with a FoST... Clubman S and 3S were the other finalists).

I think it’s ugly (which is subjective, of course), but I haven’t heard anything bad about it aside from the infotainment system.

That’s the problem, the vw needs new tires right now, so if I spend 500-600 dollars for that it’ll get me to next year, when I need new brakes (at minimum), so it’s been 500-1000 ever year (or 6 months), and it’s getting to be time to cut loses.

I will be the opposite. I think the K motor is one of the great all time motors. My wife has an ‘02 Si with 190000 miles, no problems and no maintenance except oil. even original plugs.
If you drive it and thik 160 hp is adequate, I think you will find it to be an excellent car in all ways. Maybe the turbo will get you 190,000 miles too, but if value is what you want, you want a new civic 2.0.
PS, she is getting a coupe LX-P. It pushes all the buttons to replace her ‘02 Si.

You know, for some reason when I was on Mazdas mobile site it seemed priced higher then the civic, but it’s not when i looked at their full site. Back on the board.

cheap tires at Walmart are only $200-300, and you only need to get maybe 2-3 more months (2017 models are typically released in the fall 2016)
Rydanz Roadster R02 only $57.50 :)

Drove the Civic, GTI and the Mazda. The Mazda was the best. Just drive them back to back, you’ll see.

I’m also hitting mileage where the trade in will be worth nothing. This wouldn’t be a big deal, except this car has proven it won’t last forever. So if wait a couple years, cross 100k miles, I’ll have lost 4 grand minimum on trade in, spent about 2 grand minimum on maintenance, so I’m looking at 6-7 grand to keep this car another couple years. Doesn’t really make sense where, with the trade in what it is now, I can spend 7 grand and gave something new and more reliable.

Have you considered Accord sport? I believe you can get those new in the low $20 range. Don’t know exactly, but Tom (car sales guy) on here always mentions it as a good value. It has three pedals available, and a lot more room for kiddos.

Civic and Mazda 3 can push down into teens, and we got a pilot for kid duty. Just want 4 doors for the random dog+ kid occasions. But the accord sport is a good looking sedan, much more so than the civic
